On the afternoon of November 23, British Ambassador to China Wu Sitian visited our school and delivered a speech.

At 2:30 pm, Ambassador Wu Sidian and his delegation arrived at Shaw Building and were warmly welcomed by teachers and students of our school. Party Secretary Yang Xueyi, Vice President Jin Li and others met with the ambassador and his delegation.

Secretary Yang Xueyi welcomed the ambassador’s visit and introduced our school’s discipline construction, talent training, social services, international exchanges, etc. to the ambassador, focusing on the construction and development of our school’s British Research Center and our school’s relationship with the UK exchanges and cooperation between universities, hoping to further strengthen cooperation and exchanges with the British Embassy in China in culture, education, British studies and other aspects, and make positive contributions to the healthy development of Sino-British relations.

Ambassador Wu Sidian expressed his gratitude to the school for its careful preparation and careful arrangements, and expressed his appreciation for the achievements made by Beijing Foreign Studies University. Ambassador Wu Sidian said that BFSU has cultivated a large number of talents and made outstanding contributions to the exchanges between China and other countries in the world. It is hoped that the cooperation between the British Embassy in China and Beijing Foreign Studies University will continue to be deepened and play a greater role in the development of relations between the UK and China.

After the meeting, Ambassador Wu Sidian delivered a keynote speech entitled "Culture and Creativity" in the third lecture hall of Shaw Building. The speech was hosted by Vice President Jin Li.

Secretary Yang Xueyi delivered a speech on behalf of the school and extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Wu Sidian for coming to Beijing Foreign Studies University to deliver a speech. Secretary Yang Xueyi pointed out that China and the UK are both countries with a long history and splendid culture, and have made huge contributions to the progress of human society and world civilization. In today's world, cultural exchanges help eliminate differences and enhance understanding. Mr. Ambassador is a knowledgeable person who promotes cultural exchanges. I believe that Mr. Ambassador will have a positive and far-reaching impact on enhancing the friendship between the two peoples.

Mr. Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the school for its careful preparation and the enthusiastic participation of the students, and expressed his best wishes for the 70th anniversary of Beijing Foreign Studies University.

In his speech, Ambassador Wu Sidian elaborated on the development of the British creative industry from many aspects such as architecture, music, industrial design, literature, etc., from Shakespeare to Harry Potter, from Tim Berners-Lee, the father of the Internet, to the world-famous In the BBC documentary, Ambassador Wu Sitian vividly introduced the achievements of the British creative industry. Ambassador Wu Sitian pointed out that questioning, openness and tolerance are the driving forces for the continuous development of the British creative industry.

Ambassador Wu Sitian said that the spark of creativity comes from the collision of different ideas. Students at Beijing Foreign Studies University have gained rich cultural experience in foreign language learning. After the speech, Ambassador Wu Sidian had in-depth discussions and exchanges on the issue of "culture and creativity" with Vice President Jin Li, Professor Mei Renyi, Phoenix Chief Operating Officer Li Ya and other guests. The guests expressed their views on the cultural and creative industries from their respective professional perspectives, and the wonderful discussions pushed the atmosphere to a climax.

Finally, on behalf of the school, Secretary Yang Xueyi presented to Mr. Ambassador prints with Chinese characteristics and books about Chinese culture published by our school.
